FLASHBACK 1966

"i'm late, i'm late for a very important date...no time to say hello, good-bye, i'm late, i'm late, i'm late"
for as long as i can remember, my family was always in a rush to get out the door and get to the grandparent's house. maybe it's easter. maybe it's thanksgiving or christmas. maybe it's just somebody's birthday. but we could NOT be late. it almost made me crazy. just once i would've loved to bust up in grandma's house 5, 10, even 15 minutes late. but, then, i'm reminded that i have good manners. and it's good manners to be on time. it's rude to keep people waiting.
FLASH FORWARD april 1986
i move out. i am now left to my own devices. i am late. all the time. all. the. time. i'm late to parties. i'm late to movies. i get a job 30 seconds from my doorstep. i am 5 minutes late everyday. every. single. day.
FLASH FORWARD today
jamie is never late. for anything. going to a movie? we are there 20 minutes early. going to a party? we are right on time. going to work? i am there a few minutes early. i have discovered benefits to all these things. did you know if you get to the movies early that #1~you get a great seat; #2~you have time to get a treat from the concessions; #3~you get to see the previews and see what great movies are coming up; and #4 (and far more important)~you don't have to see "shark night 3D".  if you are on time to parties, you might actually get a few minutes alone with your hosts, AND you can help them set up. turns out they appreciate that help. if you are early for work, your boss might actually take notice and promote you over that other girl. you know? the one that is late every. single. day.
today is national be late for something day. if you want, you could celebrate by being late for something. or you can be a rebel like me. i plan on being on time. for everything.

FLASHBACK november 1968

"paul is a dead man...miss him, miss him, miss him..."
i'm 3 years old so no. i do not remember when the beatles released "i'm so tired". but as i got older, i do remember hearing about the subliminal messages in the white album. and, if you play this song backwards, on a record player (does anyone remember what that is?), you do, in fact, hear the words "paul is a dead man...". he's not. he's alive and well. and 70.
FLASH FORWARD october 1986
kevin nealon appears on saturday night live as "mr. subliminal". an example of his editorial "...the boy admitted to spray painting cars but he's only eighteen and young people often do stupid and impulsive things they later regret (Shannen Doherty). I happen to think [pause] that everyone's entitled to one mistake (Euro Disney). And I'm not saying there aren't [pause] those who I'd love to see get a good flogging (Urkel), it's just that [pause] I'm afraid we've become so insensitive that we've learned to accept the idea of a man's beating in public (Pee Wee Herman)."

september is subliminal communications month. celebrate the beauty of mixed messages. think about what you are expressing without saying a word. better yet, think about what people are saying to you without even opening their mouths.

FLASHBACK september 5, 2009

"this is the shoe and these are our people..."
i've just moved in with jamie. we get up early and go watch his middle son play a jv football game. now we stop at udf. why? he tells me his friend's birthday was a couple of days ago, and since we are going to her house, he has to get her a present. he buys her 1 smiley~face cookie and 1 red bull? what? is she 12? she wasn't. we went to the wysong's for the first (for me) of many ohio state football games. bridgette is the hostess with the mostest. she spends the entire day cooking the greatest football food in the history of ever. danny spends every commercial break playing OSU game day songs. i love these people. i have just made some awesome new friends and CANNOT wait to spend every saturday (and more!) with them!!
FLASH FORWARD september 1, 2012
